A Bond of Blood An unpublished story from the Warren vaults. |
|
This item may be in the 'trivia' section but it is by no means trivial. The story A Bond of Blood by Rich Margopoulos is a fabulous Vampirella story that ranks alongside some of the best. It was written to be published after Warren's Vampirella #112 but never saw the light of day because of the fact that the Warren publishing empire was closed down. The storyline follows Vampi as she tracks down her husband Tristan in Los Angeles and finds him (apparently) a shattered vampire living with other bats in a run-down part of the city. He is drug-crazed due to the fact he has fed unwittingly on the blood of drug addicts and has become infected himself. Ironically Vampirella is unaware that it is not Tristan at all, but a clone. She lets him drink of her own blood to wash away his infected blood, restoring himself as her expense. |

However Adam and his father Conrad van Helsing have also tracked Tristan down (due to a heightened sixth sense of the older man) and see Vampi allowing Tristan to feed on her, and Adam is shocked to discover Vampi thinks it is her husband. This news is especially disturbing because Adam has only just returned to Vampi after his affair with Pantha. The author, Rich Margopoulis, has created a tense, atmospheric script that feels like the original Vampirella of early Warren stories, and one hopes that Jose Gonzales would have illustrated it had it been published. Rich is currently auctioning copies of his script on eBay if you are interested in owning one and reading Vampirella as she used to be. A must for those who love Vampi for her stories. |
