Vampirella #113

Vampirella #3 (Warren)

Platinum Blood Lust Hardcover

Classic Vampirella

Collecting rare Vampirella comics is probably one of the most rewarding, exciting and satisfying aspect of being a Vampirella fan.  After all, Vampi is at her best in comics, and there are so may choices in the long history of our favourite heroine that collecting isn't easily exhausted.

Harris Comics have done their best to help us collectors continue to enjoy our hobby. Many Vampi issues have alternate covers and limited editions (see my comics page for more details) and when Harris has a limited edition then it really is limited (many special editions have a few hundred issues instead of several thousand like the competitors) - all of which adds to the excitement.

In the examples below I have added a few notes and suggestions as to where to get the comics, but of course all comics are available in the same places. You can try and internet auction site such as eBay, your local comic shop, classified ads in local papers and comics magazines, conventions and just rambling round the junk shops.

But then that is what collecting is all about.

So travel with me down the road to those really rare Vampi comics you hardly ever see ....

Vampirella #113

This is one of the rarest Harris Vampirella comics. Published in 1988, this was the first Harris Vampirella comic ever and consisted of a number of black and white reprints from the Warren magazines. The format copied the Warren style exactly.

It wasn't a great success (thank goodness or we might not have the Vampi we have today) and the returns were destroyed, hence its rarity.

Where can you get it?

Probably one of the best places is an internet auction site such as eBay.  Otherwise, try dealers and conventions.

You won't see it often, so go for it.

How much will it cost?

$100 - $200 depending on where you see it.

Warren Vampirella #3

The third magazine from Warren Publications was (strangely) rarer than the first issue (the classic Frazetta cover is still one of the best).

Sadly this magazine didn't contain a Vampi story, so it's a pure collector's item for the completist.

Recently this magazine was auctioned on eBay for

Where can you get it?

This comic is quite common on eBay, and you'll find it in comic shops and conventions.

How much will it cost?

$100 - $200 but it could be cheaper in an auction.

Blood Lust was the fabulous 2-issue series from Harris in 1997, and about 18 months later it was collected into a hardback with an extra epilogue to the story especially commissioned for the hardback volume.

The hardback was originally available as a limited gold deluxe edition, but then it was later released in a cheaper crimson format as well.  This platinum edition is the ultra-rare version (only 25 copies) only available for Harris staff.

Where can you get it?

This hardback is only available on eBay, or direct from Harris Comics (if you're very lucky).

Vampirella Genesis Museum Edition

Vampirella Genesis #1 Museum Edition is another comic in the 'Museum' series produced by Bill Jay of Jay Comics.

Once again only 25 of these were published and were offered singly on eBay.  If you have one you are one lucky fan as they are real collector's items.

Where can you get it?

Harris Comics were selling these on eBay for a while, and you may still be lucky, but museum editions are rare and expensive.
