Jimmy Palmiotti inked most of Amanda Conner's Vampirella illustrations, and the two of them made a formidable team.

Together they took Vampirella through the Death and Destruction saga right up to Vampirella's death, then revived her in Vampirella Lives so they could set her off in Vampirella Monthly. I have described this saga in more depth on Amanda Conner's page (click here).

His work on Vampirella, apart from that, can be seen in the gorgeous Vampirella/Painkiller Jane crossover where he inks a mean Vampirella beauty contestant (in an even briefer costume than she normally wears if you can believe that!) and Vampirella Zero.

It is impossible to know how much of the Conner/Palmiotti teamup each one is responsible for, so don't let's bother. Together they make a good team, which is good for the readers.

For example, look at the simplicity and craftsmanship of the panel on the right. Vampirella is leading a somewhat reluctant Sam Featheryear by the hand into a nightmare landscape of weird buildings.

On the ground lies the body of a vampire victim, and a gigantic moon illuminates the scene in the starry sky. So many elements in that one simple panel, moving the story on but also communicating so much in atmosphere.

In the panels below two more examples, one showing Vampirella in stark detail, the other demonstrating again the mystery in simplicity as Vampirella comes towards us, silhouetted against the light.

Jimmy Palmiotti is again not a very prodigious artist for Vampirella, but I believe he is a significant and enjoyable one.
